Madonna turns 60
She has persevered in an industry that is all about the next new thing. Whatever we think of her music, she is doing what loves, doing it on her terms and staying at the top of the game for 40 years. Not many can say that in any business. In honor of the material girl’s 60th birthday today, we are re-printing part of an interview she gave in Rolling Stone 4 years ago. This interview was a big part of the AGEIST formative DNA, and we owe her a debt of gratitude for getting out in front. In the birthday gals own words: "No one would dare to say a degrading remark on Instagram about someone being black or gay, but my age? Anybody and everybody would say something degrading to me about my age. And I always think to myself, what's the difference between that and racism or any other form of discrimination. They’re judging me by my age. Why is that acceptable? I don’t understand. Because women in general when they reach a certain age, have accepted that they’re not allowed to behave in a certain way. But I don’t follow the rules, I never did and I’m not going to start.”
