This recent article in Quartzon AI got us thinking ... One of the things that AI is terrible at is something that people of our age are excellent at: emotional intelligence and human intuition. We love the idea of AI and bots being helpful and anticipatory, but we of a certain age have a few distinct advantages that will be very difficult for them to replace. It takes a certain amount of time lived to read emotions effectively, and then to react with flexible emotional intelligence. This is where both age and humanity have an advantage. As humans, it takes some time being alive to develop empathy; bots will never get there. Our AI helpers may be faster and have a bigger knowledge base, but they don’t have any emotional intelligence. Apologies, Alexa. We're just stating the facts.
